I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou itself is a poem, as well as a collection of poetry written by Maya Angelou. Maya Angelou's poems regard hidden tales that are to be discovered by those who read. For instance, the poem I know why the caged bird sings to me represented an analogy where the bird has been repressed and restricted of it's desires and yet even after knowing it's miserable fate, continues to hope (and sing). I recommended reading Maya Angelou's poems in hopes you find a new story being told that may change your perspective on things.
