counting by sevens by Holly Goldberg Sloan

Willow Chance was adopted when she was just a baby. But her she and her new family were just made for each other. Willow loves gardening and science, but most of all she loves medical stuff. She's not the typical girl who plays with barbies or spends all their free time texting. And her parents love her and accept her the way she is. Willow is an incredibly intelligent girl, and one day, it gets her into trouble. One day she takes a test in class that takes the average student forty-five minutes to complete. Willow completes it in seventeen minutes. Her teacher cant believe it. Then she is sent to the principles office, and he doesn't believe it either. Willow is accused of cheating and is sent with a behavior counselor. That's where she meets Dell Duke, her counselor. Once she walks out the door after her counseling session, she runs into Mai and her brother Quang-ha. Dell is Quang-ha's counselor too. After continuously ru nning into each other after various counseling sessions, Willow and Mai become friends. One day, after Mai talks Dell Duke into taking them out for ice cream, Willow comes home only to see the front of her house flooded with police officers and official looking people. Willow learns that her parents, Jimmy and Roberta Chance, were killed in a car accident. That's it. The only two people in the world whom Willow could call family were gone. Mai insisted on taking Willow home with her. That's how Willow meets Pattie. Pattie is Mai's mother. She makes the decision of becoming Willow's temporary guardian. She has a very strong attitude and always gets things done her way. She somehow convinces Dell to let her and her family move into his apartment. And so she and Willow and Quang-ha and Mai spend the next week cleaning Dell's apartment. They live there with Willow for a long time. Willow is just barely recovering from her parent's death. But her fr iends help her recover and soon Dell, Mai, Quang-ha, Pattie, and Willow are like one big family.
