Drama by Raina Telgemeier

Callie loves theater. But she decides not to try out for her school's production of Moon Over the Mississippi because she can't sing. Instead, she volunteers to be the set designer for the drama department stage crew. But things aren't going so well. The crew members are having trouble working together and tickets aren't selling very well. Not to mention the fact that Callie knows almost nothing about carpentry. She's been given the task of building a confetti canon. It doesn't seem to be working, but Callie doesn't know how to successfully make it shoot confetti. Then two cute brothers enter the scene. Both very decent and funny. One a little more enthusiastic than the other. their names are Justin and Jessse. Callie sees that they both have a talent for performing.Justin auditions and makes it into the play. Jesse, however, is too shy to do so. So instead of actually being in the play, he joins Callie in s et designing. Later on, Callie finds out that Justin is gay. In the midst of all the drama, Callie finds herself drawn towards Jesse. But he doesn't seem to either notice or return her feelings. On the night of the last performance, the girl who played the main character was dumped by her boyfriend and had locked herself in the cleaning closet, refusing to do the show. Nobody else knew how her part went. Nobody except Jesse. He had learned the female's part to help his brother practice. So he was put into a dress and played the girl's part. After the show, Jesse asks Callie out to the eighth grade dance. Just when Callie thinks everything is perfect, Jesse disappears from the dance floor. Callie finds him with West, the boy who played the main character from the play. Jesse admits that he is also gay. Callie couldn't believe that Jesse had asked her to the dance just to use her as an excuse to meet with West. But they remain friends. After the play, Calli e is made the director for next year's play.
