I would recommend this book. Taking place in Victorian England, it is the first in a series about Mary Quinn, who is rescued from being killed for thievery. She is rescued by Ms. Scrimshaw's School for Girls, but after being there for several years and finishing school, it is no longer school, but something else: a job. A mystery novel that brings up the topic of women's equality, this book is worth reading.
