In Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper, the main character Melody cannot talk, cannot walk, and has trouble moving any of her limbs very much. Melody is also very smart, but no one knows that. The doctors think that she cannot think and will stay at the level of a five-year-old forever, but the truth is that Melody is much smarter than her doctor. One example of this is when the doctor shows Melody four cards. There are pictures of a cow, a whale, a camel, and an elephant. Then he asked "Which animal gives birth to a calf. Melody knew for a fact that all of those animals gave birth to calves, but the doctor thought that it was only cows, so he thought that Melody was severely brain damaged and he said that she was retarded. This book is very good, and I think that anyone of any age above eight will love it. Both me and my mom read it and we both thought it was very good.
