If this book were set 100 years in the future or the past from when it takes place, what might be different about the plot, characters, etc.
Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick is two different interchanging stories, set 50 years apart. If both stories were set 100 years in the future, the story would be extremely different. At one point early on, Ben is on the phone, when lightning strikes the house and travels through the telephone cord, which he is holding up to the only ear he can hear with, rendering him deaf. If the story was set 100 years in the future, all phones would probably be cordless, Ben wouldn't have become deaf, he wouldn't have traveled to New York, and basically, the story would end on page 137. In conclusion, neither story would be very interesting at all.
