Describe a part of the book that made you feel something strongly (i.e. something that made you cry, laugh, get really angry, etc.).
This is a coming of age memoi about a girl whose mom comes out as gay in the 70s. The girl is separated from her mom because of the divorce and is not allowed to live with her because in that time being gay was seen to be terrible and it was unfit to live with two moms. But the contrast between both her parents lives are drastically different. Her father was very rich and had a beautiful wife which was there stepmother and they lived in a beautiful house in a beautiful part of town. While her mother lived with her girlfriend, in a kind of hippy house on a poor street. The protagonists struggles through the whole book with her racial identity. She wanted to be more interesting more like the people in her diverse school and friends .And, In part of the book she go's to Spain with her mom and she has an aversion to being a tourist and ruins the trip trying to be something she's not.
