If this book were set 100 years in the future or the past from when it takes place, what might be different about the plot, characters, etc.
Everything in this book would be different if it was 100 years in the future. For most of this book the main characters can't be together because one is white and the other is black, since this book is set in the late 1940's. However if this book was set 100 years in the past the main character probably would have been killed the white supremacists that almost kill the African American character Flora.
