NOTE: This review may spoil the first book.
The Ojibwe are a tribe of Native Americans. In their tribe lives a little girl named Omakayas, which means Little Frog. She is actually the last living human from Spirit Island, an island where all it's inhabitants were killed by small pox. But Omakayas doesn't know that. In her eyes, she is a normal girl with a loving family who has always been part of the Ojibwe tribe.
It's a really cool story because you learn all about the Ojibwe and their beliefs and their traditions. The story happens at the beginning of Manifest Destiny, and you get to see the effects that it's having on the people who are getting pushed out of their land by the Americans. It also happens at the time where the Ojibwe experience a small pox epidemic. It kills 18 Ojibwe. Omakayas' family get small pox too. Neewo, the youngest sibbling, dies.
But anyway, the story is divided into 4 sections. Each section is a different season. You learn about the culture and the different things that the Ojibwe had to do survive.
It's awesome. It may seem a little boring at first, but right around the second chapter, it gets really interesting.
