First I must tell you: this story is confusing, jumbled, and difficult to put together at times. It has excerpts from a different story in random places, and those excerpts are not in chronological order.
That being said.
I absolutely adored this book.
This is the tale of Taylor Markham, whose mother left her at a Seven Eleven and never came back. Now, Taylor goes to the Jellicoe School, and is the leader of one of their Houses, and the unofficial leader of the ongoing War.
You see, each year, the Cadets come and camp near Jellicoe School grounds for six weeks. And during that time, the land is split between the Townies, the Cadets, and the students. There are rules written in the Little Purple Book that dictate how trades, invasions, and trespassers are to be dealt with.
And this is fine. This is all fine for Taylor. Except... The leader of the Cadets is the boy she ran away alongside when she tried to leave Jellicoe when she was fourteen. She told him much more than she should have, and he ended up calling the school, and having the Brigadier come and get them.
And now, Hannah, the woman who rescued her from the 7-11, has left, and without her, Taylor has no one to run to.
As you read this book, you get to know more about Taylor's past, and it is written in such a way that it lets you unravel it with her.
This is another above-four-stars book!
