The Figure in the Shadows by John Belllairs is the sequel to The House with the Clock in Its
Walls. It’s definitely more scary. Lewis, the main character and his best friend Rose Rita, find
an old coin in their Grandfather’s chest, which is an amulet that helps Lewis fight off bullies.
But soon, he starts seeing figures lurking in the shadows, sending him letters saying “I come,”
with no return address. Rose Rita must destroy the figure in the shows before it can destroy
them. The Figure in the Shadows was spooky, but good. I recommend it. Also, there are two other books in the trilogy.
