The Truth of Me by Patricia MacLachlan

You know how in a lot of books the main character (witch is a kid) has a dog for her/his best friend? Well, Robert has two best friends: his dog and his grandmother. Robert doesn't exactly have parents that always act like they adore him. In fact, his mother likes her violin better than Robert!
Every summer, Robert goes to his grandmother Maddy's house while his parents and their band go on tour to Europe. And he loves it! Maddy also knows how Robert's relationship with his mother hurts him, and she lets him know why his mother treats him this way. This book made me feel sad at times but not all the parts are sad. It also made me appreciate my friends and family.
I highly recommend The Truth of Me.
