Sidekicks by Dan Santat

The superhero in town, Captain Amazing, is thinking about retiring when Wonderman comes. Captain is allergic to peanuts, so crashing into a peanut vending machine is bad. But when the an old menace comes back to haunt the Sidekick auditions, a chameleon, a hamster, a dog, and a cat team up to take down the would - be hero.
A scientific device has been stolen. Where did it go.
