El Deafo- Cece Bell

If you could rewrite one part of the story, what would you change?
I would change the part of how Cece became almost deaf, when I read it I didn't understand how what happened to her made her deaf, or almost deaf. I would make it painfully obvious that she became deaf because of "This." Like I would specify, Like say she came almost deaf because she was near an a explosion, which disrupted her eardrums, or something like that.

The Books of Elsewhere: Spellbound- Jaqueline West

The book is the second in it's series of "The Books of Elsewhere." In this book Olive (The girl from the previous book) searches for, and finds Mr.McMartin's spell book/Grimiore. She gets help from a young boy named Rutherford, whose grandmother is a actual spy/witch. Once Olive finds the book, she behaves like never before, she even turned the cats against her ( By the way, the cats are hundreds of years old, and they used to work for Mr. McMartin, against their own will). But, here being so attached to the book put everyone she loves in danger. And a old soul might have awakened.

The Lemonade War by Jaqueline Davis

The Lemonade War is an amazing book about a kid named Evan who has a little sister, (Jessie) who is skipping a whole grade! Jessie is skipping 3rd grade and moving into 4 grade. Evan isn't so happy about this because Jessie is 10x smarter then Evan and he's afraid he's going to make a fool out of himself because Jessie knows the awsner to everything. She and Evan are both in the same class. Now, Evan is extremely angry at Jessie. So now, Jessie decided to have a lemonade war between her and Evan, to see who can make money first. Whoever makes money first, is the one who thought of a smart plan to sell lemonade. Whoever sells more lemonade and gets more money, is the one who is really smart. When you read this book it might surprise you because Jessie didn't win NOR did Evan.

Diary of a wimpy kid - The ugly truth by Jeff Kinney

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?
I would totally recommend this book to other people. It's very funny and cartoony and just over all a great book. You will especially like this book if you like comic books because it has comics in it. Why I would recommend this book is because people can relate to the main character which makes it more to read.

-Mia, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

Al Capone does my homework by Gennifer Choldenko

This book is an amazing mystery that gets U so eager to read, I found it hard to solve and the answer was shocking, also I liked that it didn't finish right at the solving of the mystery, it had still more to scare, surprise and make you laugh. Also it can be funny so do pick it if you like humor

This is part of a series and when I first read it it tripped me up a bit since i din't read the other books

New Books for Summer - plus a note from the librarian!

Wow, it's been just a week of US, Reading, and you guys are reading off the charts!!!

It looks like lately the 6th graders have been edging out the 7th graders...stay tuned for the next team standings update on Thursday!  Don't forget, select the grade you are *GOING INTO* in the fall, not the one you've completed.  8th graders, where are you?!?!  I know you're reading this summer too!!!

Check out this week's challenge (it changes every week!): Read a book that takes place (or is about) where you're vacationing this summer.  Should make for some interesting reads!

Summer is a good time to catch up on to-read lists and re-read old favorites, but also a time when lots of great new books come out! Here are some of my most-anticipated books this summer (all descriptions come from the publisher- with commentary from me!)

Flying by Carrie Jones (July 2016)
"People have always treated seventeen-year-old Mana as someone in need of protection. She's used to being coddled, being an only child, but it's hard to imagine anything could ever happen in her small-town, normal life. As her mother's babying gets more stifling than ever, she's looking forward to cheering at the big game and getting out of the house for a while. But that night, Mana's life goes haywire. It turns out, Mana's frumpy, timid mom is actually an alien hunter, and now she's missing. Now, on her own for the first time, Mana will have to find a way to save her mother--and maybe the world--and hope she's up to the challenge."
Cheerleaders vs. aliens?  Count me in!!!

Towers Falling by  Jewel Parker Rhodes (July 2016)
"When her fifth-grade teacher hints that a series of lessons about home and community will culminate with one big answer about two tall towers once visible outside their classroom window, Deja can't help but feel confused. She sets off on a journey of discovery, with new friends Ben and Sabeen by her side. But just as she gets closer to answering big questions about who she is, what America means, and how communities can grow (and heal), she uncovers new questions, too. Like, why does Pop get so angry when she brings up anything about the towers?"
I loved Ninth Ward by Jewel Parker Rhodes, and I can't wait to read this one!  She writes so well about tragedy and family.

Dara Palmer's Major Drama by Emma Shevah (July 2016)
"Dara is a born actress, or so she thinks - but when she doesn't get any part in the school play, she begins to think it's because she doesn't look like the other girls in her class. She was adopted as a baby from Cambodia. So irrepressible Dara comes up with a plan, and is determined to change not just the school, but the whole world too."
Realistic fiction is one of my favorite genres- this sounds like it will have an interesting and original plot, and I can't wait to see what happens in the end!

Not as We Know It by Tom Avery (August 2016)
"Twins Jamie and Ned do everything together, from watching their favorite show, "Star Trek," to riding their bikes, to beachcombing after a storm. But Ned is sick with cystic fibrosis, and he may someday leave Jamie behind. One day the boys find a strange animal on the beach: smooth flesh on one end, scales at the other, and short arms and legs with long webbed fingers and toes. Could it be a merman, like in the old stories Granddad tells?"
This book sounds very sad and very creepy...two excellent qualities in a summer read!

Full of Beans by Jennifer Holm (August 2016)
"Ten-year-old Beans Curry, a member of the Keepsies, the best marble playing gang in Depression-era Key West, Florida, engages in various schemes to earn money while "New Dealers" from Washington, D.C., arrive to turn run down Key West into a tourist resort."
Jennifer Holms is super-author of graphic novels such as the Babymouse series and Sunny Side Up, plus current MCBA nominee The Fourteenth Goldfish, and many many more!!!

Ghost by Jason Reynolds (August 2016)
"Ghost. Lu. Patina. Sunny. Four kids from wildly different backgrounds with personalities that are explosive when they clash. But they are also four kids chosen for an elite middle school track team a team that could qualify them for the Junior Olympics if they can get their acts together. They all have a lot to lose, but they also have a lot to prove, not only to each other, but to themselves."
Sports stories are usually fast-paced and action packed, and Jason Reynolds is a fantastic author!  This will be a win all around.

What books are you looking forward to reading when they come out?

What Else is New?

I am reading the book Silent To The Bone by E.L. Konigsburg.

-Lydia, 7th grade, Vassal Lane

What Else is New?

I can't wait to read new books over the summer. My goal is to read at least 12 books. I think the 7th graders are going to win this contest.

-Lydia, 7th grade, Vassal Lane

The One And Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

Which minor character in this book would you like to know more about? If there were a whole book about them, what would it be called?
I would like to learn about the character Ruby because before she came to the circus there was a back round story about her. I want to know where she came from? If anything in the past effect her that made her come to the circus? Where are here parents, have they passed away?

-Lydia, 7th grade, Vassal Lane

Planet Middle School by Nikki Grimes

What would you want to see happen to the characters after this book (or the last of the series) ends?
I wold like to see Nikki continuing playing basketball. As she continues she plays for school teams. After she gets a scholarship to a really good basketball collage. When she finishes collage she becomes a famous basketball star. Nikki continues her dream of basketball.

-Lydia, 7th grade, Vassal Lane

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

I watched to movie and read the book. They were totally different! The book was a better in my opinion! Movie was still good though!

-Aliki, 7th grade, Vassal Lane

Dork Diary #9 by Rachel Renee Russel

If you could rewrite one part of the story, what would you change?
I love the DOrk Diary series since... Always! But to be honest, there is something that is bugging me all time when I read the first 20 pages of Drk Diary. It always starts out with Nikki and her crush Brian, blah blah blah. But then there is somthing bad happens, which is a good thing, but whenever you read a part of Dork Diary, you always know that there is going to be a problem with Mackenzie coming up to the scene. So there is a pattern going on in the story for each scene. So how I would like to change it up is that I would add more house drama to kind of relax through the story, because it happened to me that I just keep flipping through the pages looking for images. So I would kind of add more things that are that are non school related like Brianna, and house drama like Ms Bri Bri's hair salon or something.

In Conclusion, I am not teying to say that this book is bad or anything, but IF I could eddit a part, I would add other distractions in this diary so the story would be less boring, and more sense of humour!

-Sarah, 7th grade, Rindge Ave

The Collected Tales by Nikolai Gogol

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?
This book is a collection of many short stories, so first of all, if you like a book to focus on a single main character, then this book is not for you. It instead is a collection of stories that gives you an insight to the Russian culture, slowly, story by story. I'd recommend it to people who aren't afraid to try something new, and who like characters that can be quite realistic, but also quite unreal at the same time. I particularly liked The Overcoat and The Portrait the best.

-8th grade

Dork Diary #7, by Rachel Renee Russell

Which minor character in this book would you like to know more about? If there were a whole book about them, what would it be called?
I would like to know about Mackenzie. I know this is awkward, but I personally think that Mackenzie has a BIG problem herself. Steeling tickects from Chloe, Zoey, and Nikki and pretending that Mackenzie, Jessica and I forgot the other girls name, were them, which is a), very direspectful, b), What 8th grader would actually do that? We all live in Cambridge, and we go to school in Cambridge, so I don't really think that such a wicked person that would actually do that!
But anyway, if there was a book about Mackenzie, it would be called... The Truth behind gossipers or something like that!

-7th grade

A Tale Dark and Grimm by Adam Gidwitz

A Tale Dark and Grimm is such a great page turner! I couldn't put it down! There are 3 of them. I read the one about Hansel and Gretel. The book is basically a bunch of fairy tales mixed together in some way to connect with Hansel and Gretel. But these fairy tale endings are none like you have heard before. Instead of the Disney ending, there is blood and gore and death. I strongly recommend this book, and for you to also read the other two.

Thanks to Francine, who lend me the book, and engaged me in it!

-Isabella, 8th grade, Cambridge Street

The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Have you ever thought about a world where everyone is practically alike? Is it sickening to think about your skin being rubbed off and your bones being re-adjusted, so that you can start fresh? If you like distopia, then this is the book for you! Find out what happens when being pretty is not the answer? Read to find out!

Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm

If you could ask the author/illustrator of this book one question, what would it be?
What inspired you to write this book? It seems like it could be based on a true story.

-Leah, 6th grade, Community Charter School of Cambridge

The Island of Beyond by Elizabeth Atkinson

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?
If this was a kid of color then it would be a mix of orange and black.I think it's black because it has the dark side of Charlie's dad. Also, the place that Charlie moved to was in a place called nothing. But when he got to know all the secrets of his family it kind of got an orange color with a tiny bit of black to the color.

The kind of smell I think this book belongs is the smell of ash and a clean and fresh grass. If I compare Charlie to those two kinds of smells I would pick fresh grass. Then I would compare Charlie's friend to ash.

-Eden, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

Fuzzy mud by Louis Sachar

I think this book is great. But also at the same time when the talk science it confuses me because I feel like the chapters are not in order.Well some of them are at least. The rest I feel like it's good.Another suggestion is that don't skip years and then go back and talk about those years you missed. But even though I want to read the second book if the author makes one.

This book shows how one little piece of mud that you don't know if it attracts bugs makes a big deal. Also, it means that a community is trying to make you feel welcomed and caring but also there are some sad parts but not that sad.

-Eden, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

Wonder by P.J. Palacio

One thing I have to tell the author is that I like how the book is like one chapter August is speaking then other people are speaking in different chapters. Also, I noticed that was giving flashbacks for the readers so the readers can understand what happened in the past for the characters like if they were scared of something then they tell the story.Another thing is there are the good details the readers want to know and there are just the fluffy parts (The parts we don't need).

-Eden, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

Drama by Raina Telgemeier

What books would you recommend to the main character of the book and why?
I would recommend books about famous plays because the main character, Callie's favorite book is about a play. Also, because when Callie was little her and her brother went to a play and she loved it. Once they got home Callie couldn't stop singing the lyrics to the song.

-Leah, 6th grade, Community Charter School of Cambridge

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?
Wonder is a story about Auggie, a fifth grader, with an incomplete face. He acts normal, but people are just scared of his figure and run away. He had never been to school before (cause of surgery), and he will go to a new school for the first time. Auggie is worried if his classmates would make fun of him. After all, Auggies classmates going to be friends with him?

Dork Diaries part 6, by Rachel Renee Russell

I do recomend the Dork Diaries series if you like school drama, gossiping problems, and etc. Well, Dork Diaries #6 is about a lot of drama going on at school and, where there is a popular girl Mackenzie that always gossips with her friends who always brag and stuff. Nikki Maxwell wants to ask her crush Brandon to the school Valentine Dance, but Mackenzie just doesn't stop distracting Nikky from asking Brandon out and creates lots of big rumours about Nikki. Well of course, the whole school WORSHIPS Mackenzie, but her inside is vain.

-7th grade

Dork Diaries #5 by Rachel Renee Russell

What character(s) in this book would you most and least like to be friends with, and why?
Mackenzie. The CCP girls. Mr Zimmerman.

I would least likely will end up being friends with those three people because they are most likely rude, and gossiping characters in this story.

Mackenzie and the CCP girls are the ones who try to ruin Nikki's life and steel her crush by making tons of bad rumours and lies.

P.S Mackenzie is CUTE, POPULAR, and fashion queen. Every one treats her as if she was a god, but her inside plan is to destroy unpopular girls and make them down. ><

Flora and Ulysses, by Kate DiCamillo

Flora and Ulysses is a story about Flora a 10- year old girl gets a big present from this guy, and it is a cool vaccum that moves by it's self. That vaccum scoops up everything, and once the object is in the vaccum, then it can not come out. Well, it scopped up the squirell by accident. How is Flora gonna get that squirrel out?

The Red Pencil by Andrea Davis Pinkney

The Red Pencil by Andrea Davis Pinkney is really good.It has poems and drawings and it is amazing.Amira lives on a farm in Darfur Sudan. She and her family are totally normal and their only conflict is who can grow more tomatoes on the neighboring farms. She wants to read and write but after the Janjaweed militia destroys her village it seems even more impossible.Even in the bad situations, Amira remains really hopeful.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants an amazing book!

Every Soul a Star by Wendy Mass

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?
Every soul a Star has been a popular book by Wendy Mass, ( you guys might reconize her from The Candymakers). Anyway, if someone read this this book and enjoyed it, I would rather recomend Because of Mr Terupt, because the structuration of the book is VERY similar. Wait is that a word? Because of Mr Terupt is structured with 7 5th graders telling about their life at school. And pretty much similar to Every Soul a star, everyone is the character (I mean like you know, everyone tells their own experience about life, and so on and on).

Big bad Ironclad by Nathan Hale

I think this book is a good book for school and also for fun! This book is a history book. But some of the things in the book actual did not happen. For example, Nathan Hale getting crushed by a history book.I like this book because this book is not all about what happened to the Ironclad, well it is but it has a little more fun to it.

-Eden, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

Everlost by Neal Shusterman

I recommend this book because this book sounds and looks boring but at the same time, there are some wonderful things about this book. One thing is that this book is not all real and it can never happen in real life but it can happen in your dream.Another reason this book is wonderful is that it always leave you hanging so you can read the second book if there is.

-Eden, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

Out of the dust by Karen Hesse

This book is about a girl who lived on a farm. There were a lot of sand storms and there were barely any sunny days. But things happen very quickly around there. Also not plenty of blesses happen over there but also some of the most important people in the whole world that she loves and cares about, are gone.I really liked how the author put paragraphs that are actual a poem format. So I really liked that and also the one other thing I like about this book is that the author leaves the reader hanging when one paragraph ends then the reader wants to find out more and what's going to happen next.

-Eden, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

The thing about jellyfish by Ali Benjamin

The thing about jellyfish is a great book. It's a book about a girl named Suzy Swanson who knows many different things that others don't. In the book Suzy spends a lot of time researching and learning things about Jellyfish and trying to find a "jellyologist" to help her prove that her best friend Franny Jackson's life was cut short because of a deadly Jellyfish sting. Suzy would try to do anything to discover the truth even fly to another continent.

-Aya, 7th grade, Vassal Lane

Mirror by Jeanie Baker

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?In this book, there are two cultures and two stories.
One is about a boy and his daily life in the USA. The other is about another boy's daily life in Morocco.
This book is challenging because it has both English and Arabic words in it.

-Iman, 7th grade, Vassal Lane

Maze Runner by James Dashner

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?I Reccomend this to all young adults. It has comedy, suspense, action, mystery, and a little bit of romance. This book is my favorite book. I think that people who are into mystery, and action would love this book. This book is about a kid named Thomas who wakes up in a maze with no memories. He finds himself in a place called the Glade thats surounded by walls. Outside the walls, the maze. There are more people at the Glade, they call themselves the Gladers. There are only boys at the glade. Theve been looking for an exit for 2 years. Will they get out?

Theres a movie, and 3 other books. Theres a new book coming out soon.

Rapunzel's Revenge by Nathan Hale

First of all, the Nathan Hale that made this book is not the original spy Nathan Hale.

This Nathan Hale has also made the comic book series "Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales" which I won't talk about now.

When Rapunzel is locked up in a tower and her hair grows wild, she decides to escape and meets friends that she promises to help. Rapunzel hates stealing, and wants her mother so bad she will do almost anything to get her back. A warm, friendly cast of characters mixes with a cast of characters that have been turned to the bad side by Gothel, the terrible 'queen of the lands' with her growth magic.

"Ain't that dandy," says Rapunzel.

-Bruce, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell

If someone liked this book, what other books should they read?
This book was very touching and sad. A girl was left on a island all by herself, and was rescued much later in her life. It really puts things in perspective. It was really well written. If you have read Hatchet, you'll like this book.

-7th grade

The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

When Percy has amnesia, sleeps somewhere for eight months, and watches a goddess throw a cake at a giant, you know that the story's going to get wonky.

In the sequel to The Lost Hero, the readers take another perspective - the Roman camp, Camp Jupiter. They find out here that the two camps will have to unite, but they're not ready to unite. They've been enemies for thousands of years!!

In the exciting sequel to The Lost Hero, Frank makes a brave sacrifice, Hazel will see a teenager who's 70 years old, and Percy has to hurl a stone statue head at a giant.

-Bruce, 6th grade, Cambridge Street

You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour and David Levithan

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?
This book did not have the same flow as Every Day by David Levithan. It was still enjoyable, though it didn't have the same happy feel to it as most young adult book do. The mood was a little dull, and both characters were in the same situation most of the book.

-7th grade

Absolutely Truly by Heather Vogel Frederick

I wrote about this book last week when I had just started it, but now that I'm further in I want to say how important the setting is to the story. The setting is Pumpkin Falls, New Hampshire, and this summer I am spending some weekends on vacation in New Hampshire. However, this book takes place in the freezing, snowy, winter (something else important to the story) and I go in the breezy summer. I recommend this book to those who like realistic fiction because this book IS realistic fiction!!!

-Margaret, 6th grade, Vassal Lane

Every Soul a Star By Wendy Mass

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?
I think this book would be ice cream because, it is a nice, sweet, and, cool book. I would also recommend this book to anyone who wants a nice, sweet, and cool book.

The Bobbsey Twins and the Greek Hat Mystery by Laura Lee Hope

If someone liked this book, what other books should they read?
If you like this Bobbsey Twins book, you should read the other Bobbsey twins books, The Boxcar children, and the Enid Blyton books, because they are all about "old" fashioned families solving mysteries or going on adventures.
Weekly Challenge: I am going to greece this summer!

If you could ask the author/illustrator of this book one question, what would it be?Since this book is made from different authors, I would like to ask Rain Telgemeier how she gets that inspiring ideas because I love her books. The conflict of the story is clearly stated, and I would like to meet the Comic Squad authors one day!

This Is NPR by various sources

If you could ask the author/illustrator of this book one question, what would it be?There are many things I would like to ask the authors that wrote this book, like " how has being a reporter changed your life?" But now to tell you about the actual book. The book is simply and obviously about the history of NPR ( National Public Radio ). I bought this book in the first place because I listen to NPR every day, as a matter of fact I am listening to it whilst I am writing this very blog! NPR tells you so much about the world, have you herd about Brexit? Well guess where I heard it first, in the car on NPR! This book will teach you that these voices you hear about on the radio actually go to the places that you hear them and they sometimes risk their lives to get the news out to you, in the book that talk about 9-11 and the Rwandan genocides as well as John Lennon being shot outside his hotel. This book is so interesting and makes you take a second listen to something we take for granted, NPR

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?
Leviathan is a fast paced page turner that I found impossible to put down for more than two hours, my teachers can confirm this. It is historical fiction (if you want to call it that) but mostly fiction, historical because it uses the countries that were involved in World War One, the time that Leviathan takes place. It is about a girl named Deryn Sharp and Prince Aleksandar,at the beginning of the story Deryn is trying out for the Royal Air Force, which instead of using planes tofly they use what they call " Darwinist creations" they are what many countries are using to wage the war against the " clankers" or the Germans, they are abominations that are made by weaving many different animals together for instance, the leviathan, which the book is named after, is basically a giant flying whale. However Deryn's problem is that to join the Air Force you must be a boy, so she must conceal her identity from her flying mates , which is obviously hard to do. However on the other side of the war Prince Aleksandar is fleeing the people who made him an orphan and started World War One, although you don't really find out who they are until a few chapters in ( no spoiler warning ;) ) . The prince is technically on Germany's side, the clankers so they use machines instead of abominations like the allies use. There is not much to say about this witjout spoiling anything, so I reccomend this book to anyone.

I would change the part where the old lady does not go get another dog, because it's really sad. She should go get another one to cheer her up after having to give back the dog to the owners who lost him.
p.s this does not have aliens in it.

Looking for Alaska by John Green

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?
I am read the book looking for alaska by John Green, if this book were a color then it would defiantly be dark green. This is a dark green book because it takes place at a boring school some what in the woods and is dark with the use of smoking, "y'all smoke to enjoy it. I smoke to die". With the combination of the green landscape and the dark emotion, this book is a dark green.

"The Chocolate War" by Robert Cormier

If you could rewrite one part of the story, what would you change?
"The Chocolate War" by Robert Cormier is about a high-school freshman named Jerry Renault . Jerry goes to a struggling boy's catholic school named Trinity. Trinity is running out of funding, so they hold an annual 'voluntary' chocolate sale. This year, they doubled the price and the amount to get more money. Every boy needs to sell fifty chocolates. Every boy says yes, except for Jerry. Jerry was forced to not sell any chocolates for ten days by a secret school society called the Vigils, of which a senior named Archie is the leader. However, Jerry continues to not sell any chocolates after the ten school days are up, sparking an all-out school war.

If I could change any part of the book, I would change the ending to a happy ending with Archie not winning.

The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm

If you could rewrite one part of the story, what would you change?
If I could rewrite one part of the story, it will be when (spoiler) the grandpa found a science way to be young again, because he thought it would be awesome, but since he looks so young, he does not look like an adult. So when he was trying to go into his lab, they stopped him because he did not look like the real professor on his keycard.

The Giver By Lois Lowry

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?
If this book was a song it would be so sad. In this book they made every thing sound sad and gloomy. I'll give you one example, they made every one see black and white accept the giver and Jonas but he sees color later in the book. Even the movie is sad too killing people making to much mistakes.

-Abdulrahim, 6th grade, Rindge Ave

Powerless

If you could rewrite one part of the story, what would you change?
I would rewrite more of the parts where it had a lot of action and put romance. Cause the book had only one paragraph for romance.

The Baby Sitters Club the Truth about Stacey, by Raina Telgemeier

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?
Food: candy (because it's when the members all know aboutStaceys diabetes)
Color: Pale blue (because the members kind of ignore Stacey which kind of gives that color affect)

Fairy Idol Kanon, by Mera Hakamada

If you could rewrite one part of the story, what would you change?
If I could change one part of the story, I would change the magic fairies. I mean, since I don't really like fairies and magical stuff, I could maybe change where all the fairy lands would be destroyed or something. But the part that I really don't get is that how could pop stars change the whole concept.

Other than that, great COMIC BOOK!

What books would you recommend to the main character of the book and why?To Corona the main character, I would recomend to read/watch the Simpsons. I think the Sinpsons would be a great comic book for Corona because she loves fantasy and imagination. Now maybe the Simpsons may not have any imagination or any fantasy, but to me, I think Corona should sheck out the Simpsons.

Superfugde, by Judy Blume

If someone liked this book, what other books should they read?
Superfudge is a fiction novel that contains comedy, family heigyene, and fun. Fudge is really into curiosity and asks a lot of questions such as where do babies actually come from. If you liked this book, I highly recomend other books written by Judy Blume, and the Fudge series as well. This book is great for at least from grades 5 or 6.

Dork Diaries (#2) by Renee Russell

What character(s) in this book would you most and least like to be friends with, and why?
Honestly, I would most likely want to be friends with Nikki. Yes, I know you guys might feel very awkward bout this, but I usually feel ba for people who have problems, and those who suffer at school. You guys might want to be friends with Mckenzie, or maybe Jessica, but I personaly care a lot about the week, and I am loving to help them. In conclusion, I would most like want to be friends with Nikki Maxwell.

Dork Diary (#1) by Rachel Renee Russell

If this book were made into a movie, who should play the main character, and why?
I think Selena Gomez should play the role of Nikki in the movie. I don't know, I just think she would be a good actress for the role of Nikki Maxwell. Nikki is very sensitive person and she is more in the "unpopular" section in her middle school, so I just thought that Gomez would do well since she is more of cute, I would say? No offense Mrs Gomez. Anyways, since this book is stuctured like I diary, in the movie, it would be like going into the diary and then the story goes on.

Oh. There would also be different series of the movie like how there are 10 books in Dork Diary. Get it?

Have a WONDERFUL break!

Food: Bake goods because that's their bake sale afterschool club!
Color: White when it's peace and perfect, and red when there is a problem
Smell: At some parts, it would smell sweet, but when Meredith's on the way, maybe like alchohol!

Read this book, it is awesome, and some parts will make your mouth water!

Class Dismissed, by Allan Woodrow

Class Dissmissed is a tory about a extremely strict teacher teaching a misbehaving 5th grade class that retires one day for silly reasons, like getting vinegar poured on her shoes by accident. Then the class stays the same and misbehaves even more. But no one in the school actually nows that their teacher retired and the principal still thinks that the lesson is still live. Maggie the smartest kid in the class being the fake teacher, gives out homework, sents people to the office randomly, and whenever another teacher asks where their teacher is, they always answer: "She is in the bathroom" and lets it go.

You should definetly read this awesome book, it is funny, and sinilar to Because of Mr Terupt and Every Soul a Star, the students in the book are telling the story from their point of view.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes unbelievable romances between the most unlikely of foes. The main characters are wizards and their names are: Simon Snow and Tyrannus Basilton "Baz" Pitch.

If I were in the book, I would yell at the woman who said that August was disabled (Don't remember her name), even though there is nothing wrong with him, except for his face. I'm so glad that the principle (I think it was the principle) keep denying that there is anything wrong with August, and that she can't remove a student who is not dysfunctional. Which August isn't. Thank god for her.

The Books of Elsewhere: The Shadows- Jacqueline West

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?
If this book was a color it would be: Black (Which it is, but for a whole another reason) Why, you ask? Because this whole book is about how this 11 year old girl moves in to a old, stone house with just her two parents. For some reason, she can climb in to the paintings that where already in the house, because of some spectacles. Then she finds out about how one painting that seemed nice was actually evil (Annabelle. And, no not the scary doll), and the first person to live in this house (Mr. McMartin) was buried in the basement, with his next two generations (Which were like four people), oh, and he also killed his son and his daughter-in-law. Now Mr.McMartin has come to life through a painting, beacuase of Annabelle. Then... Read the book.

The Giver- Lois Lowry

Read a book that’s been made into a movie and also watch the movie. Which did you like better?
In the book, the ceremony took nine chapters to get to, Jonas is 12 when he becomes the receiver of memory, His friend (Fiona) worked as a take-carer of the old, And they had bikes as transportation. For adults and children. In the movie, it took about two minutes to get to the ceremony, Jonas is now 18 not 12 when he becomes the receiver of memory, Fiona is now a nurturer (someone who takes care of babies), Jonas kisses Fiona in the movie, and he punches Asher, which NEVER happened in the book! And now what he uses to get away is a motorcycle, not a bike.

El Deafo, by Cece Bell

If someone liked this book, what other books should they read?El Deafo is a grafic novel about Cece, a kindergardener who gets deaf and gets hearing aids. She spends her life carrying a heavy metal box that keeps all cords in place. This graphic novel is a real story the author is writting about her childhood. This book is about how Cece gets through things, since she is completely deaf, school friends, family, and some schol drama.

If you liked this book, you should definetly read Out of my Mind. Out of my Mind is a book about disabled Melody, and basicly how she gets through things in school, and it has a very similar plot to El Deafo, but it is not a graphic novel.

Sunny Side up, By Jennifer L. Holm

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?
Sunny Side up is a grahic novel about a young girl going on a trip to Florida with her grandfather, and horrible events happen. The people who live in the town are all old ladies and old...people! Sunshine, the main character was pretty upset about how she cound't find any kids at her age. She also once recieved a Barbie doll as a "Wecome to Florida" gift and the baiblie was an old lady Barbie which was also ridiculous. Sunshine should have had a terrible summer break.

If this book was something to eat, it would be:
-hot soup because Florida in the summer is burning hot!

If this book was a color, it would be:
-Yellow. Because Florida is really hot, and also the mail character's name is Sunshine

If this book was a song, at the very begining, it would be My house by Flo Rida,
then towards the middle, it would be the THRILLER by Michael Jackson, just kidding.
Um, maybe some sad classical music like Beetoven.

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?
If this book was a food it would probably be a dumpling because on the cover and start of this book you do not really know what it is going to be about and with a dumpling you might not know what the filling is. Then Surprise! You are hooked to the book and everything comes to life like when you reach the filling of a dumpling, the surprise is found yet the dumpling still tastes amazing.

Bake Sale, by Sara Varon

If you could ask the author/illustrator of this book one question, what would it be?
Bake Sale is a graphic novel about a cupcake in his bakery shop making and selling bae goods. There is really not much big conflict, but the story is just about how cupcake spends her life, and and hangs out with his friends. ( It may seem a little boring but if you like cooking and bake goods, you would enjoy this book. That's why I just ordered one on Amazon, but you can get it at the library.)
If I met the author, I would want to ask if she had ever made bake goods (that appear in the book) because I really want to know how it turned out. Also, I would want to know where and how her inspirations came from.

Out of my mind, by Sharon M Draper

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?

Out of my mind is a story about a disabled 5th grader girl entering a special school, with new people and new teachers. Melody cannot walk, talk, or even feed herself, or even holding a spoon. Out of my mind is a story about how disabled Melody turns out that she actually has a brain, and she is the smartest in the class. But with all that bullying, teasing and making fun of Melody makes things go harder for her.

Out of my Mind is an awesome book, which I recommend it if you had read Because of Mr Terupt. The victim and the villan have very similar character qualities. Those two stories take place in school, and I also recomend you guys to read Because of Mr Terupt as well.

Well going back to Out of my Mind, you should definetly read this book because the author's message is very sweet. The begining is a little sad, but the story stil stays excellent. I recomend this book for at least from 4th grade to read this amazing book.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Read a book that’s been made into a movie and also watch the movie. Which did you like better?

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

If this book were a food/color/song/smell, what would it be and why?

If this book were a food, it would be called Mystery Dinner, composed of cake, blood, bats, strong swords, Tabasco oil, and other food that you wouldn't want to eat.
If it was a color, it would be an berserk rainbow; a rainbow that has every single color that you've ever seen, including black, brown, and white.
If it was a song, it would be a prophecy by the gods (provided by The Lost Hero.):
Seven half bloods shall answer the call
To storm or fire the world must fall
An oath to keep with a final breath
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.
A very unpleasant song.
It would smell bad at the start, and a tiny bit better at the end. This book is a mixture of adventure and humor.

But the way to beat the game is by winning the game, and that means beating floor 100, and by the way, they have not even finished floor 1! But the main character of this manga/anime, is a beta tester! (beta testers are people who play the game before it is out) and guess what level he is? SPOILER! He's level 74! Shark Hunter by Jef Czekaj

If you could ask the author/illustrator of this book one question, what would it be?
If I could ask Jef Czekaj one question about the book,it would be "Where did the rappers take the boat?".Ok so Julie and her grandfather are on a journey to find the world's largest shark Steven. And so they are on a boat and then two rappers are on a raft and they have a note that says "If saved then we will bust out some fresh beats". So then Julie and her grandfather save them and they have a trophy that says "Worst rappers" (also Julie's grandfather loves to be a pirate) and then they stop the music and Julie's grandfather (his name is Merton) is still dancing and he falls into the ocean. Then Julie goes on this whole journey to find him and she does. When they get to the top of the ocean their boat is gone. Then Julie spots out their raft, they seem to have left a note. Here is what the note said "We seem to have borrowed the boat''. So my question is where did they take the boat to?

The Tales of Beedle The Bard by J.K. Rowling

Would you recommend this book? If so, who would you recommend it to, and why? If not, why not?
The Tales of Beedle The Bard is an addition to Harry Potter. These tales are brought up in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, where they read The Tale of The Three Brothers.

I would recommend this book, because it gives lots of insight on what Dumbledore believed (which is in the commentary). This is important because Dumbledore doesn't give much away, and is a very mysterious character. You can access his character traits through the commentary, where he calls himself one of the world's greatest wizards of all time.

Beedle's Tales include a foolish king, a hairy heart, a silver knife, a huge white worm, and people walking endlessly without getting any closer to their goal.

The Tales of Beedle The Bard is a great book, with tales about wizards, witches, and muggles alike. I greatly recommend this book.

The Tales of The Three Brothers is about the Deathly Hallows, including the elder wand, the resurrection stone, and the invisibility cloak.

If you have only read the first book of Harry Potter, then you get the idea what is cloak is when you read The Tales of Beedle The Bard.

This book is an amazing sci fi about a world where the government is corrupted. The protagonists are juicy characters with a lot of backstory and personality, like the main protagonist, Marcus Yallow is a nerdy teenager, who loves RPing. If you've read Little Brother (and enjoyed it), I recommend Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. The protagonist of this compelling Sci-Fi novel, is another interesting character named Wade Watts, who wants to win a big competition to get him out of the dumps, and into a proper education.

The Accident Season by Moïra Fowley-Doyle

If someone liked this book, what other books should they read?
This book can be a little bit confusing, but it's very interesting once you get into it. It has a very similar writing style and feel to We Were Liars.

Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind

What character(s) in this book would you most and least like to be friends with, and why?
Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind is a book about a young girl named Shabanu who lives in the deserts of Pakistan. Her, sister, who is is only thirteen, is betrothed to a family friend, and Shabanu will be betrothed soon too. However, a horrific accident causes Shabanu to have to marry a rich man for whom she does not know and dislikes. Shabanu has to find a way to not marry him and keep living the life which she had before, with her family.

Of the major characters in this book, I would like to be most friends with Shabanu because she is kind and does not want to submit to the sexist way of life in the deserts of Pakistan. I would not like to be friends with her dad because he forces Shabanu to get married.

Mocking jay by Suzanne collins

Read a book that’s been made into a movie and also watch the movie. Which did you like better?
This book I feel is worse than the others, I guess now the cool action is kind of over. The end is a little expected, and the same goes for the movie.

catching fire by Suzanne Collins

Read a book that’s been made into a movie and also watch the movie. Which did you like better?
The only scene I really like in this book Is the scene with the mockingjay dress, and how she twirls, and the dress burns, and the dress is a mockingjay, basically.
I still like the book better, but the movie does really show the dress well.

The hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Read a book that’s been made into a movie and also watch the movie. Which did you like better?
This a really cool book about the future where a girl called Katniss Everdeen lives. There are 12 districts. she lives in 12. Every year two kids from each district are chosen to go into the hunger games. Then Katniss's sister is chosen. Katniss voulenteers to take her place.
I like the book better, because emotions are almost always better told through words.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

If you could ask the author/illustrator of this book one question, what would it be?
I would ask Stephen Chbosky if he had ever had any experiences like Charlie had in the book or if any of his characters were based off of real people that he had met or heard about in his life. A lot of the characters in this book really made it what it is, they all really effect the life of Charlie (the protagonist) in one way or another so I was curious if any of this came from real people or events because it would be very interesting if it did!
If you could ask the author/illustrator of this book one question, what would it be?
If I could ask Stephen Chbosky a question I would ask if any of the characters in this book were based off real life or if he had encountered any people like this in his life. As well as this I am curious if he feels that any of the characters had characteristics of himself. The characters in this book were very interesting and it would be cool if they were real people because I think they would be very cool people to meet.
