Wonder was RJ Palacio's first book ever written. Palacio, a graphic designer turned author writes in such a clear, sweeping way that makes it hard to believe that it is not a true story. Wonder is 315 pages, making it a fairly long, but not overly challenging. The book takes place in the present time in North river heights in New York. The main character, August (Auggie) Pullman has a facial difference that has caused him to stay out of school until 5th grade when his mother tells him to “give it a try”. Auggie reluctantly agrees, and the kids at school have mixed reactions. Pallacio mixes beautiful writing, a wonderful story telling ability, and great characters to create an amazing book that I highly recommend.
