The Year of the Dog is the story of a Taiwanese- American girl. The year of the dog is supposed to bring new friends. Also, it is the year you are supposed to "find yourself". Grace/Pacy takes this opportunity to discover what she wants to be. She meets Melody, another Taiwanese-American girl, and they quickly become friends. Grace discovers her talent through a nationwide contest. She deals with friendship and disappointment. If you liked this book, you should read the sequel, The Year of the Rat.
