Moby Dick By: Herman Melville

Moby Dick is narrated by a boy named Ishmael. The narrator is a reliable source of information because Ishmael was there during this story and witnessed all the events that took place during this story. This book takes place in the 1850s in New Bedford, Massachusetts. This book is a classic by Herman Melville. Herman also wrote Typee, and Billy Budd. This book is about a young man whose name is Ishmael. He goes on a whaling ship called the Pequod. He learns how to whale and what to do after you kill the whale. Sadly their captain, Ahab is after only one whale, named Moby Dick. Moby Dick is huge, and Ahab could only imagine, how much oil and money he could make. He also wants to kill Moby Dick because the whale took off the captain’s leg a couple years back. I encourage you to read this book to find out about the adventures of Moby Dick, Ahab and Ishmael. I like this book because, it is more an educational book. Not only does it take you alongside the captain and teach you about whaling it also encourages bravery and to find courage within yourself. I would like to read more by Herman Melville, because I love the way he explains everything and how he has so much detail in his book. I would give it a 10 out of 10 stars.   - Brianna

The Diary of a Young Girl ~by Anne M. Frank

The diary of a Young Girl by, Anne M. Frank is a totally relatable book. For one think instead of textbooks filled to the rim of gory information about who knows what and who knows where, it is a personal experience of a 13 year old girl trying to survive not only WWII, but being enclosed from the world, battling against her sister, mother, and any one & everyone who can find any fault within her. Anne really brings me into her life as she wanted to do with Kitty (her diary's name.).

If you are reading this and have read this book too I would love to hear your idea/perspective of it all. - Juliana

Mary Queen of Scots by Kathryn Lasky

This summer I traveled to Scotland. My mom wanted me to learn about the history of Scotland so she bought me this book. At first I was not interested at all because it sounded like a history book, but as I started reading it, I realized it was more about Queen Mary in her younger years. Mary lives in the castle in France with her four best friends all named Mary, her future husband Francis, and all of King Henry II and Catherine de Medici's children. Her father is dead and her mother is back home in Scotland but since Mary is the royal bloodline and she is betrothed to Francis she lives in France with him. Throughout the book Mary and the four Marys encounter spies, prophecies, gossip, and much more. I loved this book!!!! - Bronwyn

Saints by Gene Luen Yang

this is a great book, it turns a real war into a great comic book. the main character is a strong female, named four-child who yearns for a new name and a new life. The story is about a war between christians and chinese, the fighting takes place in the country of china. This book is not in full color but not black and white. I wont give anything away but the end is quite depressing. As i said it was a war and there is another book called BOXERS that is from the opposite perspective. - Aviva Gould
