No Cream Puffs Karen Day

In this book, there is a 12 year old girl (more of a tomboy) named Madison. It is 1980. She doesn't wear lipgloss like most other girls, but she loves to play sports and joins her towns baseball league in the summer. The first girl in Southern Michigan to play on a boys team (there were no girls teams). The press calls her a star but she just wants to play ball.
There are crowds at every game and TV cameras start showing up and interviewers too. At the same time (actually a little bit before that) her friend abandons her for the popular girls. And her enemy, Billy Evans plans to bean her in the championship game. Will the boys like her if she strikes them out? She knows her team will win if she van keep her cool and do what she does best at, pitching.
With exciting games, boyfriends, best friends, and a ? (spoiler!) neighbor, Madison's summer turns out to be full of surprises. -Beftu
