this is an exciting novel based around this girl, Carmen, whose family is traveling to mars. there is a lot of story onboard the ship(s) to get there, carmen striking up a romance with the pilot of the ship, named paul. once on mars, she ends up going into the martain desert alone after getting in trouble for swimming in the new water tank. she ends up falling down a hole in the desert sand and is rescued by martains, who take her back to the colony. then it turns ot that the martains unwittingly infected her with a disease, and she has to go back to the martain city to get cured. then the martains come to the colony to cure the other sick children. later it turns out that the martain leader, red, is a bomb and gets taken to the moon so as to save everyone on earth. WARNING: THIS IS NOT A BOOK FOR KIDS. i would rate it R or maybe M. i would reccomend this to teens or other kids like me who read/watch M- rated stuff at the age of 9. if you read this book, you should also read the sequels, starbound and earthbound.
