This book is about how Ace and Bub (Brothers that are beavers) who sail to a Little Beaver Island. Where they meet some bunnies. The bunnies explained how the birds on Little Beaver Island wanted to drive them away. So the built something to drive the birds away. The birds used a "Noise Making Machine" that overpowers the bunnies sensitive ears. The Bunnies built a giant fan, but the bunnies call it a "Giant Wind Maker." And somebody called "Wally" paid for the entire operation himself, just out of the blue. Then Ace and Bub met a bird, who broke them out of a cage the bunnies were keeping them in. And then the bird mentioned Wally.Then the birds lock them up in a tree "for their own safety." Then the boys chew them selves out of the tree and get caught in a waterfall. Then they find a hole in the side of a stone wall and swim up, and find themselves in a room. And there in the corner of the room they f ind Walter Mackerel the Fourth. Then Walter admits in giving both the bunnies and birds money, but he insisted that he didn't know what they did with it. But the boys don't believe what Walter told them. Then they find a build board that says:
"Hey squirrels tired of carrot-grubbing bunnies? Sick of sharing seeds with squawking birds? Then build your new home on... Acorn Isle! A paradise for squirrels! 15 Oak trees per squirrel! No other critters guaranteed! Call uncle Wally for more info!"
The the boys figure out that Walter is making the birds and bunnies fight so he can have the island to himself! Ace and Bub will stop Walter. So they do this elaborate scheme to defeat Walter. The birds and bunnies find out that Walter was on both sides and got mad. But he sneaked away, but then Bub turned on the "Giant Wind Maker" and away Walter went.
