This book takes place in Tennessee in 1960 during the time of segregation. The message of the book is that everyone is equal. This book is a historical-fiction. Patricia C. McKissack is the author of this book. She has written over one hundred children's books and is also a Newberry Honor winner. This book takes you on the adventure with Grandma Gee (Abby) who travels up into her attic with her grandchildren and is making a scrapbook of times from when she was younger, because their family reunion is coming very soon. While she is up in the attic with her grandchildren she tells them what it was like in the 1960s and about segregation and sit-ins. If you would like to travel back in time to 1960 I would encourage you to read this book.
I loved this book so much. It was a touching story but it was also fascinating. I would like to read more by this author. I would five it a 10 out of 10 stars.
