This book starts with Percy, Thalia, and Annabeth going to Westover Hall when Grover thinks he finds two half-bloods. The monster of the school is Dr. Thorn, vice principal. Dr. Thorn takes the kids Nico and Bianca di Angelo and they all go after him. They almost die but Artemis (goddess of hunting) and her hunters, which include Zoe Nightshade save them.
Annabeth gets thrown over a cliff, and Artemis asks Bianca to join the hunters. Artemis then hunts after a monster. Both Annabeth, and Artemis get captured by a titan named Atlas. At camp they ask the Oracle what to do. Basically, the Oracle says five peole must go, campers and hunters combined, and two people will die. Zoe, Bianca, Grover, Thalia, and Phoebe (another hunter) go. Percy really wants to go on the quest so he trails behind on Blackjack, a flying pegusus. This quest almost kills Percy a lot of times.
