We encounter our hero, Zozimos, when he was captured by his uncle, Nestor. Nestor accuses him of dilly dallying by helping his friends out. So Nestor fakes his death, and makes Zozimos swear that he will avenge him by going to Sticatha. But when he gets there, he can tell that something's not right...
